The Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA) is excited to announce the recipients of the Exemplary Governance Awards for calendar year 2023. ISBA's Exemplary Governance Awards program honors school boards and school board members who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to continuous improvement, professional learning, and student success. Awards are conferred annually across four levels of distinction based on points accumulated for attending ISBA seminars, workshops, conferences, and other learning events. This year’s individual school board member honors include 109 Commendable Awards (Level 1), 78 Advanced Awards (Level 2), 54 Distinguished Awards (Level 3), and 29 Exemplary Awards (Level 4). In addition to the individual accolades, 105 school boards are receiving board-level EGA awards. For the board awards, Commendable (Level 1) and Advanced (Level 2) are based on the points earned by each board member, while Distinguished (Level 3) and Exemplary (Level 4) require the completion of certain additional criteria, such as a retreat with an outside facilitator and goal-setting to elevate student achievement outcomes. “On behalf of ISBA, I would like to commend this most exceptional group of school boards and school board members,” said ISBA Executive Director Terry Spradlin. “School boards perform a vital public service, and members who actively participate in professional learning are better equipped to govern effectively and meet the needs of students.” ISBA will present the EGA awards at the Spring Regional Meetings during the month of April. “We're proud to celebrate these school boards and school board members, and we thank them for their dedication and commitment to making their K-12 school communities stronger,” said ISBA President Rebecca Gardenour. ISBA provides its members with a full range of professional learning opportunities. At dozens of events throughout the year, ISBA informs and educates board members about best practices, legislative issues, policy development, school law, and more. The complete list of EGA winners for program year 2023 can be found here. ### Adam VanOsdol ISBA Communications Specialist/Content Strategist avanosdol@isba-ind.org
