Indiana's non-waiver high school graduation rate reached the highest level in 15 years at 84.92% for the Class of 2023. The Class of 2023 was the first class of Indiana students required to complete Graduation Pathways, as well as the first class since 1999 not subject to a high school exit exam. More than two-thirds of Indiana public high schools (71%) posted a non-waiver graduation rate of at least 90%. When waivers are counted, the graduation rate for the Class of 2023 stands at 88.98%, the highest since 2016. Waiver Cap A cap takes effect beginning with the Class of 2024 on the number of waiver graduates that may be counted in a school's graduation rate. Under HEA 1635-2023, the cap will be phased-in over three years, starting at 9% in the first year, then tightening to 6% for the Class of 2025 and 3% each year thereafter. Notably, about 14% of traditional public high schools exceeded the 9% cap for the Class of 2023. Diploma Types Data shows 52.3% of Indiana high school graduates in the Class of 2023 earned the regular Core 40 Diploma, 29.5% earned the Core 40 with Academic Honors Diploma, 8.7% earned the General Diploma, 5.2% earned the Core 40 with Academic and Technical Honors Diploma, 3.3% earned the Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma, 0.6% earned the Alternate Diploma, and 0.3% earned the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
