Twenty-five individuals applied to fill a vacancy on the school board of the Center Grove Community School Corporation. The number would be unheard of in most school districts. But for Center Grove, it's business as usual. Back in 2013, a vacancy under similar circumstances attracted 19 candidates. The school board consistently draws a high level of interest from the community, an indication that the residents of Center Grove are passionate about their schools and eager to serve. The talented pool of applicants included the former director of student learning for Indiana Online, the former chief academic officer for the Indiana Department of Education, and a former senior director of corporate strategy for Eli Lilly. After narrowing the applicants to eight finalists, and holding round robin-style interviews, the Center Grove school board scheduled a vote for Thursday, July 18, to appoint the new member. The board selected Jane Dunigan-Smith to fill the seat. The other seven finalists were Don Lyon, Kathryn Minor-Reed, Michael Overpeck, Benjamin Roberts, Teresa West, Lindsey Williams, and Nathan Williamson.
