School board members, superintendents, and attorneys are invited to the 2024 ISBA/IAPSS Collective Bargaining Seminar on August 28. The agenda for the day includes: -- Jacob May, general counsel for the Indiana Education Employment Relations Board, will provide an agency update with details on court cases and administrative decisions. -- A panel of superintendents will delve into the data they gather prior to the start of bargaining, the sharing of data with the local association, and other steps they take in preparation for the start of the formal collective bargaining season on September 15. -- Amy Matthews from Church Church Hittle + Antrim will review the laws on teacher compensation, the factors that may be considered in a teacher compensation plan, and supplemental payments. -- Susan Traynor Chastain of Lewis Kappes will share strategies and language proposals on the bargaining of fringe benefits and leaves of absence. -- Jonathan Mayes of Bose McKinney & Evans will address questions that arise regarding the composition of the bargaining unit and the process for making changes to the unit. -- Last, attorneys will discuss the new salary thresholds under the Fair Labor Standards Act and other work-related leaves and accommodations required by federal laws.
