A new law effective July 1, 2025, prohibits a governmental entity from "substantially burdening" parents' fundamental right to direct the upbringing of their child. While much of the testimony on this measure during the legislative session concerned the rights of parents in the context of the Department of Child Services, the law has a broad application that includes local public school corporations, state and local government, and public post-secondary institutions.
