ISBA Honors Senator Ron Alting as Inaugural Recipient of Champions for K-12 Education Award

October 27, 2025 – The Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA) is proud to announce State Senator Ron Alting as an inaugural recipient of the Champions for K-12 Education Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions as an advocate and champion of public education in Indiana.

This newly established award celebrates individuals, groups, or organizations that demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, collaboration, and excellence in advancing K-12 public education at the state or local level. Recipients may include policymakers, school board members, school corporation leaders, association leaders, and community advocates.

Senator Alting’s nomination was jointly submitted by Dr. Scott Hanback, Superintendent of Tippecanoe School Corporation, and Terry Spradlin, ISBA Executive Director. Both highlighted Sen. Alting’s extensive and inspiring record of commitment to public education through legislative action and personal engagement with schools in his district.

Dr. Hanback praised Senator Alting’s hands-on involvement:
"What truly sets Senator Alting apart is his personal investment in the schools he serves. He regularly attends school events, visits classrooms, and listens to educators and community members. His creation of the Senator Ron Alting Scholarship exemplifies his dedication to helping students pursue post-secondary education without financial barriers."

Terry Spradlin emphasized Alting’s legislative integrity:
"Senator Alting not only talks the talk but walks the walk. He has fought for public education his entire career. I congratulate him on this tremendous honor, and I thank him for his exemplary service demonstrating the utmost compassion for children."

Les Huddle, Superintendent of Lafayette School Corporation, added:
"He votes for what’s best for students, not for political party lines. His actions speak louder than rhetoric."

Senator Alting expressed gratitude for the recognition:
"Throughout my time in the Indiana Senate, I have always championed public education and worked to ensure all Hoosier children have access to great schools. I thank ISBA for this honor and for its vital work with school boards and the General Assembly."

Dr. Robert Stwalley, Lafayette School Corporation Board President, also offered high praise:
"Senator Alting has tirelessly fought for resources and policies that benefit students. He is truly deserving of this inaugural award."

ISBA presented the award to Sen. Alting on October 27 during the ISBA Region 4 Fall Meeting and Dinner.

Sen. Ron Alting represents Senate District 22, which includes Lafayette, where he was born and raised. He has served in the Indiana Senate since 1998.
