October 27, 2025 – The Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA) has named State Senator Vaneta Becker as an inaugural recipient of the Champions for K-12 Education Award, recognizing her exceptional leadership in support of public education throughout her distinguished legislative career. This newly established award celebrates individuals, groups, or organizations that have positively impacted K-12 public education through their advocacy efforts at the state or local level. “Senator Becker is well known and recognized as a tireless advocate and champion of K-12 public education,” said Terry Spradlin, Executive Director of ISBA. “She stands firm on issues of importance to public education.” Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Superintendent Darla Hoover thanked Becker for her support, stating, “Her commitment to students, teachers, and families has had a meaningful and lasting impact on our schools and community.” Abbie Redmon, Superintendent of Warrick County School Corporation, echoed these sentiments in a letter of support: “Senator Becker listens intently, asks thoughtful questions, and genuinely seeks feedback on how legislation can be improved to better serve public education. She is tough, firm, and willing to stand up for what is right.” Lynda Glover, President of the Warrick County Board of School Trustees, highlighted Becker’s commitment to prioritize public education funding and her opposition to policies that could undermine public schools. “Senator Becker’s integrity, dedication, and consistent advocacy have earned her the deep respect of educators, parents, and community leaders alike,” Glover stated. In response to receiving the award, Senator Becker said, “I am deeply honored to accept this award from the Indiana School Boards Association. Every child deserves the support of their community and the state, and I remain committed to working alongside my colleagues in the Senate and those in Senate District 50 to ensure those support systems stay strong.” Sen. Becker has served in the Indiana State Senate since 2005, following 24 years in the Indiana House of Representatives. ISBA presented the award to Sen. Becker on November 10 during the ISBA Region 9 Fall Meeting and Dinner. ### Adam VanOsdol ISBA Communications avanosdol@isba-ind.org
