Education was on the ballot in six Indiana communities at special elections held on November 4, 2025. Five school corporations secured voter approval to renew their existing operating referenda, generating a combined $53.5 million in annual property tax funding, or $428 million over the next eight years. One school corporation seeking an operating referendum for the first time was unsuccessful. New school operating referendum requests have now gone a dismal 1 for 11 over the past seven elections. By comparison, 24 of 28 operating referendum renewals have prevailed over the same time frame. Eighty-three Indiana school corporations (29%) will have a voter-approved referendum tax levy in place in 2026. Twenty Indiana school corporations have a referendum tax levy scheduled to expire at the end of either 2026 or 2027. ### Adam VanOsdol ISBA Communications avanosdol@isba-ind.org
